"Democratisation of Space" at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Updated: Jul 28, 2024

27.03.2024 - Cosmos for Humanity and Swiss Space Law Forum organised a screening-debate of the film "The Martian" followed by a lecture on the "Democratisation of Space" at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in person or by video for this 'screening-debate' of the film 'The Martian' ('Seul sur Mars' in French).

The film screening was followed by a superb presentation by Merve Erdem Burger, which gave us a better understanding of the various rights issues raised during the screening and analysed the (not always very solid!) 'legal' choices made by the scriptwriters.

The debate on this mainstream film was also an opportunity for Claire Elß to take a critical look at the narrative of the 'Democratisation of Space' that certain players in the space industry are now trying to impose, in the process distorting the very idea of democracy.

Thanks again to the Swiss Space Law Forum for organising this event, and to the Faculty of Law at the University of Neuchâtel - Université de Neuchâtel for welcoming us to its premises!
