Recycling & Valorization
of Space Materials
Rethinking the end-of-life of materials in the space sector
The space sector is experiencing exponential growth, but with it comes a new challenge: the management and recovery of materials from space activities. Until now, the waste generated by the space industry - whether in orbit or on Earth - has been little reused and insufficiently integrated into a circular approach.
At Cosmos for Humanity, we are actively working on developing a new initiative to address this issue. Our objective: to redefine the future of space materials by proposing innovative and sustainable solutions, while integrating an ethical and environmental dimension.
A solution for a more sustainable space is coming soon.
We have defined the key areas of the project and are now entering the implementation phase with our strategic partners from the space and circular economy sectors.
Initially, the program UpSat Cycle is focusing on recycling and repurposing ground-based satellite antennas, with a view to making them a concrete lever for sustainability in the space industry.
This initiative aims to explore and develop concrete solutions to:
-
Identify and categorize materials that can be recovered and reused.
-
Develop technological approaches adapted to the recycling of space components.
-
Promote the integration of reusable materials in the design of future missions.
-
Create a common framework for reflection on a more circular space industry.
This approach is part of a long-term vision, with the ambition of reducing the environmental footprint of the space sector while promoting responsible and collaborative innovation.
