From 3 to 5 December 2024, Cosmos for Humanity had the pleasure of participating in the World Space Forum in Bonn, an international event organised by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the German space agency DLR.
Our CSR coordinator, Fleur Montandon, represented the organisation there to promote our vision of a more sustainable, inclusive and ethical space.
5 keywords for a shared space future
Throughout the discussions, five key concepts emerged and marked the key priorities for the future of the space sector:
1️⃣ Raise Awareness
Make everyone – citizens, businesses, civil society – understand that space concerns us all. Inform, mobilise, educate: space sustainability begins with collective awareness of its importance.
2️⃣ Cooperation
No organisation can act alone. International cooperation between agencies, governments, businesses and NGOs is crucial, whether through binding agreements, incentives or joint initiatives.
3️⃣ Communication
We must better share the benefits of space, but also raise awareness of the urgent need for action in the absence of clear regulations on space sustainability.
4️⃣ Share Information
Space data, particularly for space traffic management, must be accessible, transparent and shared to ensure safety and coordination in space.
5️⃣ Community Involvement
Building active and inclusive communities is what will enable concrete progress. Collective action is essential. And it starts now.
Towards the Pact for the Future and Space2030
Cosmos for Humanity is fully committed to the momentum generated by the United Nations around the Pact for the Future and the Space2030 initiative, to contribute to concrete regulatory advances on the international stage.
We also had fruitful discussions with many space industry players in Bonn, and we look forward to building new partnerships to advance the issues of sustainability, inclusion and responsible governance together.
